Central German Competence Network for Rare Diseases
Welcome to Central German Competence Network for Rare Diseases (MKSE)!
Rare Diseases - What is it?
In Germany, there are about four million people who are affected by one of the 7-8,000 different rare diseases. The European Union has defined that no more than five out of every 10,000 people are affected by this disease.
Rare diseases are often genetic, so that complaints start usually in childhood. However, this does not apply to all rare diseases. The large number of possible causes and sometimes unspecific symptoms mean that the diagnosis is often made only years after and in between effective therapies can be applied.
Here at the center, we would like to help you with our services. We, the employees of the Competence Network Rare Diseases, pooled together the expertise of numerous specialists from the region and are in constant communication with doctors and scientists from other parts of Germany and the world. Together with the health-oriented self-help of those affected and their families, we would like to advise you.
